Not like last year
This weekend I was trying to take a longer bike ride, while still staying close to town. At one point I was out at the Broadway Bridge, and I went down to the river. I was at the point where last year I saw the kayaks going under the path from the Argo spillway and into the Huron River, below the Argo Dam. One of those photographs made it into the 2013 calendar.
Only this year, the chute was blocked off and the spillway was almost drained. No idea, no signs, of what was going on, what the plan was, and how long it would be like this. The canoe center was very busy, the sun blazing down on a beautiful Sunday afternoon, and they were delivering canoes by the trailer-load to the put-in spot just beyond the chute.
Further along the river, unbothered by the canoes drifting by, was this fisherman. Hard to tell from the photograph that, if you just take one step back and look around, you see that you are surrounded by University of Michigan Health System hospitals and related buildings, and that just up the hill is downtown Ann Arbor.
