Winter light
I’m currently reading a couple of books (one by, one about) Eliot Porter. Color landscape and nature photography (interesting to read his interactions with Steglitz and Adams). They had one of his photos at UMMA, but it was odd-looking as if someone had over photoshopped it – but my reading explained that after he was famous he employed a specialist printer to make his (dye transfer/cibachrome) prints for sale, and as the years passed such expertise became more difficult to find and this print was from his later years – certainly the books I have (from the library) look much better.
Meanwhile, here is a photo I took a little over a week ago (not sure of the temperature, but it was late afternoon and I got frozen because my camera kept locking and I had to take off the L-plate and remove the battery to reset it all the time) (today didn’t feel as cold, and the day started at 22F (-5.5C) and reached about 26F (-3.3C)). It’s just a quick hack of two in camera jpgs (I have the raws still to look at it). Don’t know if it’s really any good, but it’s inspired me to get my printer going again (when I finish unclogging the heads!)
